Many churches could close their doors permanently if they don’t soon find a way to collect donations electronically. The pandemic has caused havoc in all industries but more so on churches that will not be opening their doors in the foreseeable future due to social distancing.

In partnership with Nedbank, Karri has developed a collections platform to assist churches, clubs and other social organisations. The app is already been used successfully in over 600 of the top schools and other organisations to collect and administrate ad hoc payments.

Karri CEO Doug Hoernle says churches and non-profit organisations play an important role in the lives of many South Africans. “These organisations rely on contributions from members to support worthy causes. Collecting funds in the context of social distancing is a challenge in these unprecedented times.”

“Many organisations such as churches are turning to technology to deliver services. Although this keeps the congregation in contact with the church, there is no easy way to continue collecting valuable resources such as tithing and membership fees,” he explains.

Karri offers organisations a secure payment gateway by providing the ability to load collections via the platform. Most importantly, it enables members to make payments for collections remotely via the mobile app. For example, a church could collect Sunday tithings using the Karri app while doing an online sermon.

Hoernle says the Karri team is ready to assist churches and other community organisations to start using this app. “It’s an easy registration process that is done through a digital process. Once registered and the database is uploaded, congregation and club members can download the free app and will be able to make payments immediately.”

Additionally, Karri provides a comprehensive financial management solution, including reconciliation tools, reminders to members and a trackable system for all payments made to the organisation. Being backed by Nedbank, it gives churches and its member’s peace of mind that their money is always secure.

“Using an app like Karri puts a virtual card terminal in every person’s pockets. There is no need for you to head to your school, church or local club to use a card terminal or pay with cash if you have Karri. Be it membership fees or your donations, there has never been a better time to move away from cash and card transactions,” he concludes.
